Staunton-on-Wye Primary School
This small Primary school in in West Herefordshire reflects the eco-friendly ethos of the school community. The Voluntary Aided School with 70 pupils in 3 classes, and a community run pre-school, has a very strong and existing ‘Eco Ethos’, where sustainability is at the heart of the teaching, learning and is well embedded within their curriculum.
The building design reflects the eco-friendly ethos of the school community, which was communicated through a successful consultation process and translated into a built form. The design process included an extensive consultation with staff, students and parents which arrived at a series of key points for inclusion in the brief:
A secure and welcoming entrance.
A simple plan allowing for passive surveillance of students.
A building section that maximises natural light while allowing natural ventilation.
Flexible and agile spaces.
Direct link to the outside from every classroom.
This project was completed as Project Architect and CEPH designer at Architype Architects on a Traditional Building Contract.
